Two Yukon residents are celebrating their win of $292,297.50 from a 6/49 lottery ticket.
Java Connection owner Brian Beasley, and Marshall Mintz, who recently returned to the Yukon from mining overseas, will be the recipients of one of the highest-valued winnings in the Yukon as early as next week.
"We've been buying lottery tickets together since it started, since 6/49 started," Beasley told the Star today.
"We've been buy(ing) tickets for so long, I'm sure we've spent $200,000. It's been 30 or 40 years since the lottery started and we've been buying them together since then," said Mintz.
Beasley and Mintz learned of their winnings early this morning after Lotteries Yukon called a local radio station to announce that a ticket purchased in the Yukon had won almost $300,000.
When Beasly heard the news, he called up Mintz and told him to check their ticket, which Mintz did.
"He checked the ticket and told me and I called him a liar at first," said Beasley. "Then he put the store clerk on and he said, 'Yeah, it's true.'"
Neither of the men is certain of what they will do with the money, but Mintz said his share may go toward purchasing real estate.
"It's not a life-changing amount," said Mintz, but added he was excited to learn of his good fortune.
The long-time friends will split the winnings.

Hey Marshall, my old sky-diving buddy, are you still in these parts?
For some reason we were talking about you and I decided to see if I could find you after all these years. I live in Haines. I'd love to see you some time!
