A Whitehorse man arrested after a series of break-ins last Wednesday night is facing an updated list of charges.
Matthew Pete, 24, had court appearances related to these offences and other unrelated charges last Wednesday and Friday.
Pete currently faces the following Criminal Code charges related to these dates:
• Six counts, break and enter at a business;
• Possession of property obtained by crime;
• Possession of a break and enter tool; and
• Two counts of mischief.
The RCMP initially believed more break and enters could be reported throughout last Thursday, but investigators did not receive any further calls linked with the break-ins.
“A crime spree like this can have a significant impact on businesses in the area and our whole community,” Insp. Lindsay Ellis, the Whitehorse RCMP detachment commander, said Tuesday.
“All of the police involved, including the Whitehorse detachment General Duty and General Investigation Section officers, and the Yukon RCMP Forensic Identification Section, made this investigation a priority in order to ensure that the suspect was located and evidence could be collected.
“It was so heartening to see the community come together to support the businesses that were victimized by these offences,” Ellis added.
Pete is also before the courts related to charges of break and enters at businesses from September 2021.
He remained in custody pending a further court appearance today.

And we will be seeing Pete on the street very soon. Wonder how many judges experience break ins. I'm sure the cops have their properties well protected with 24/7 patrols.
