Drivers will have to continue using the four-way stop signs at the Quartz and Industrial roads' intersection for at least a couple of more weeks.

The new lights that will direct vehicles through the intersection have been erected.

However, city officials are waiting to make sure the equipment has been installed properly before switching it on, Larry Shipman, the city's engineering projects officer, said this morning.

An expert from Vancouver is set to fly into Whitehorse during the third week of this month to check on the lights.

Provided the system checks out, the lights would likely be activated on Sunday, Nov. 23.

Shipman noted the city generally switches on new traffic lights on Sundays because there aren't a lot of drivers on the road, giving those who are the opportunity to get used to the lights before the higher traffic volumes begin.
