Lightning started four new fires on Wednesday, with most of the activity in the Mayo district, where three new fires were discovered.
One was also reported in the Dawson district near Aussie Creek. All of the fires are in remote areas in the wilderness zone.
"The fires range in size from three to 10 hectares, and none of them are posing an immediate threat to any values,” duty officer Dave Milne of Yukon Wildland Fire Management said today.
"These fires continue to be monitored, but with cooler temperatures and rain in the forecast starting today, we are expecting a downturn in fire activity all the way through the weekend.”
Meanwhile, the fire burning in Haines Junction near the west side of Aisihik River was fairly active but is not causing a great concern.
Existing fires are currently not posing an immediate threat to any properties and continue to be monitored closely.
Meanwhile, officials continue to closely monitor the fire burning in the Whitehorse district near Michie Lake.
The fire is an estimated 130 hectares and remains 10.5 kilometres from the closest value.
It continues to be patrolled twice a day.
The column of smoke from the fire may be visible, at times and those in the area may encounter smoke.
With Wednesday's new activity there have now been 166 fires in the territory burning approximately 239,000 hectares. This compares to last year's fire season where 117 fires burned 81,000 hectares.
