The fall sitting of the legislative assembly is scheduled to get underway Oct. 25.

Premier Darrell Pasloski said this morning his government will bring forward a number of key bills during the upcoming session, among them the first supplementary budget for 2012-2013.

An Income Tax Act amendment will also be brought forward implementing the children's art tax credit.

The release goes on to say motions will be tabled and debated regarding funding cuts to Parks Canada brought forward in the federal omnibus budget bill last March. The cuts are affecting Kluane National Park, the SS Klondike and Dredge #4 near Dawson City.

A motion will also be brought forward regarding the safety of children's recreational equipment.

"I am looking forward to a productive legislative sitting,” the premier said in a release.

"Our government has been in place for almost a year, and I am proud of the many accomplishments achieved so far and the progress being made toward our longer-term goals.”

Liz Hanson, the leader of the official Opposition, said the NDP's key issues moving into the fall sitting will be much the same as they were a year ago, during the campaign for the last election – held a year ago today.

"We still have seen a government that has failed to really, fully address the issues of affordable housing. They're still sitting on over $13.5 million and no housing strategy,” she said.

"This is the pressing issue: affordable, accessible housing, let alone the whole continuum of supportive housing for those most at risk,” Hanson said.

This has been evident through the municipal election in Whitehorse, she added.

Other priorities for the NDP will include the Peel watershed's future, including the final public consultation of the land management plan, the Yukon's overall approach to environmental stewardship, health care, including awaiting new regulations for nurse practitioners, and citizen engagement on key issues.

Cabinet communications staff could not be reached before this afternoon's deadline for further comment.
