There will be a new Kwanlin Dun First Nation chief as of March 19.

With current chief Rick O'Brien's name missing from the candidates' list, the race will come down to Doris Bill, Jennifer Edzerza, Wayne Jim, and Raymond Sydney.

Bill retired last year from her career as a CBC North television reporter, while Jim was a cabinet minister for part of the 2000-02 Liberal government in the territory.

Both Sydney and Edzerza are currently members of Kwanlin Dun's council.

Meanwhile, 17 candidates will vie for the six council positions.

Alicia Vance, Jessie Dawson, and Charlene Charlie are all running for re-election to council.

They'll face competition from Edith Baker, Shirley Bien, Susan Burns, Amanda Calbery, Dennis Calbery, Jacine Fox, Howard Macintosh, Jason Shorty, Steven Shorty, Buck Smarch, Sean Smith, Mike Stanley, Teresa Ward and Ray Webb.

Votes can be cast between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. March 19 at the Nakwadaku Potlach House. An advanced poll is scheduled for the same time and place on March 3.

Special ballot packages will be available from Feb. 17 to March 17 from the chief returning officer, Mary Anne Carroll.
