REVISED - Chief Doris Bill of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation was re-elected Wednesday to her third term in office.

Bill earned support from 235 voters, or 56 per cent of the 423 votes cast for the three candidates.

Outgoing councillor Sean Smith finished second in the election for chief with 162 votes or 38 per cent of the total votes cast.

Ian Kuster polled 26 votes, or six per cent of the total.

A recount was conducted Thursday to confirm which candidate for councillor took the sixth and final seat on council. The election rules say there is to be a recount when four or fewer votes separate the candidates for the last seat.

The recount confirmed incumbent Coun. Charles Chief finished sixth with 170 votes, or four ahead of incumbent Coun. Howard MacIntosh.

Rosemary Waugh-Wilson topped the 16 candidates for council with 202 votes, or 48 per cent of total votes cast.

Charlene Charlie finished second with 192 votes.

Incumbent Coun. Jessie Dawson finished third with 190 votes.

Incumbent Coun. Raymond Sydney and Jess Ryder tied with 187 votes to take the fourth and fifth seats.

Incumbent Coun. Dennis Calbery did not seek re-election.

Elder Coun. William Carlick, who was appointed by the First Nation’s elders’ council, was unsuccessful in his bid for one of the six elected positions.

The elders’ council has not yet named its representative, but that is expected in the coming days.

There were 866 eligible voters. Based on the total of 423 votes cast for the three candidates for chief, voter turnout was in the neighbourhood of 49 per cent.
