Whitehorse RCMP are investigating the death of a 69-year-old man found dead in his home Friday.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a home in the McIntyre subdivision at 7:35 a.m., Whitehorse RCMP said.

"Upon arrival, 69-year-old Allan Donald Waugh was found deceased inside the residence,” says a press release police only issued this morning, three days after being summoned to the home.

Police are not saying how Waugh died nor whether anyone else was in the home when they arrived.

Const. Dean Hoogland could not exactly say why the press release was issued three days after police were called to the residence.

He noted the major crimes unit, which is conducting the investigation, has a number of processes and protocols to go through before deciding what information to release to the public.

Hoogland would not say whether Waugh suffered from any wounds, noting that is under investigation.

Waugh's body has been sent Outside for an autopsy.

"I can't answer that,” Hoogland responded when asked.

Police are working to assure the public it's not believed there's any risk to the general population.

"Foul play is believed to be involved, and Yukon RCMP have launched a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death,” police said.

"It is not believed that there is an immediate risk to the general public at this time.”

Police thanked Kwanlin Dun First Nation members who have helped with the investigation.

It was noted, however, it's believed there remain individuals with information about the death who have not yet come forward.

Police will continue to follow all leads.

Hoogland noted it's not believed the possible homicide is connected to the fire which destroyed a home in the same subdivision early Sunday morning.

The last homicide in the territory happened in August 2010.

Anyone with information on Waugh's death is asked to contact the RCMP at 667-5555.
