DAWSON CITY – Klondike Metallic Industrial, located at the corner of Harper and Front streets, went up in a blaze of flame and thick smoke on Tuesday afternoon.
The industrial supply company, previously known as Northern Metallic and Northern Industrial Supplies, occupied about half the block between Harper and Church streets.
Dawson RCMP blocked the streets for blocks around, including Front Street between Princess and Church, in case serious explosions ensued.
They received the call at around 1 p.m. An EMR ambulance was on hand in case it was needed.
The large buildings on the rest of the block south of KMI include the Front Street Apartments and the Yukon Hotel.
People lunching at the Eldorado Hotel spotted the pall of smoke rising from a couple of blocks south and west away shortly after 1 p.m.
Staff had left the building as soon as they knew there was a problem and no one was injured.
The fire was under control and the site was continuing to be watered down at 5 p.m.
Further information, such as the cause of the blaze, was not available from the fire department before press time this afternoon.

So very sad to see this building gone. Thank you to the fire fighters who risked their lives to save ours.
