The Salvation Army’s Christmas kettle campaign has exceeded its goal of raising $75,000 to support shelter, meal and drop-in programs in Whitehorse.

“The generosity of the people of Whitehorse has been outstanding,” Ian McKenzie, the Army’s executive director in Whitehorse, said last Thursday.

“We met our goal (last) Monday with three days still left in the campaign.”

“Thank you to everyone who donated at the kettles and to all those who volunteered to ring the bells; we couldn’t do it without you,” added McKenzie.

“The money raised goes a long way to helping us serve those in need in our community throughout the coming year.”

So far this year, the Salvation Army has served more than 50,000 meals and provided 5,200 bed-nights in men’s and women’s shelter.

Final kettle campaign results will be available in the new year.
