A young man died at Whitehorse General Hospital last night following a failed attempt to jump between two houses in the McIntyre subdivision.

Brandon MacIntosh, a resident of McCandless Street, fell more than six metres and sustained internal injuries following his leap between the two buildings on the same street.

He was taken to the hospital at approximately 7 p.m., but died at 11:38 p.m.

The case is still being investigated, Whitehorse RCMP Cpl. Tom Wyers said this morning. He indicated there was no evidence of foul play and that the death appears to be accidental.

'We feel there is substance abuse involved,' said Sharon Hanley, the chief coroner for the territory.

Alcohol is suspected, she said, but as of press time this afternoon, there was no evidence of drugs in MacIntosh's system.

The man died from internal bleeding due to a severe injury to his liver, she said.

Hanley said it's still unclear exactly what happened. However, she added that MacIntosh apparently jumped between two buildings where one is higher than the other.

He appears to have hit against the other building in the abdominal area, she said.

'It's very sad,' she stated.

MacIntosh would have turned 21 next week, she said.
