A section of Industrial Road could officially be closed off next week if council passes second and third readings of the bylaw permitting the closure.

The road closure comes as Arctic Power and Communication Systems Ltd. is looking to buy the 20-metre by 15-metre piece near Gold Road.

The site is among those that were part of Industrial Road before it was realigned in 2007.

At that time, the curve at the south end of Gold Road was straightened to meet Industrial Road. That meant portions of Industrial Road became available as lot expansions such as this one.

If council votes in favour of the road closure next week, a bylaw would then come forward turning the land over to Arctic Power.

That would then be followed by subdivision approval to consolidate the properties.

Prime waterfront land for residental or commercial development is yet again squandered on hopeless polluting industrial purposes. City planning at its finest!
