Human error is being blamed for an accident at Castlerock Enterprises' property Wednesday evening that sent two Nuway Crushing employees to Whitehorse General Hospital with broken legs.

"One operator didn't put the bucket down or emergency brake, got out and the loader rolled into two guys," Nuway owner Rod Adams said in an interview this morning.

"He was an experienced operator; it's just an accident."

The accident is under investigation by the Yukon Health and Safety Workers Compensation Board.

A stop work order issued following the accident was lifted Thursday afternoon.

"At 10:55 (Wednesday), we received the call from the RCMP that there was a serious incident and that two Nuway Crushing employees were involved," said board president Valerie Royle.

"Two (occupational health and safety) officers attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing."

Val Pike, a spokesperson for the hospital, confirmed that two men were admitted late Wednesday evening and underwent surgery for their injuries.

A 50-year-old man suffered from a fractured left femur (upper leg) and a 46-year-old man broke both his lower legs in the accident.

The men, whose names weren't released, are recovering at the hospital and remain in stable condition.

Be Safe. Encourage your employees to be safe. Accidents happen. Having proper medical providers and emergency Response Teams can be of great assistance in a vast number of situations.
