‘Incredible reception in the Yukon’: Singh

As he continues his first-ever tour of the Yukon and Northwest Territories, federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh says he wouldn’t be reluctant to pull out of the confidence and supply agreement keeping the federal Liberals in power if he was convinced it wouldn’t work.

Singh spoke to the Star this morning from Yellowknife, where he is touring the N.W.T. after a weekend visit to the Yukon.

He said he had been meaning to see each of the territories for some time, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a crimp in those plans for more than two years.

“COVID made it difficult to get here,” he said. “It would have been irresponsible to travel here.”

Singh emphasized this was very much a working trip, not just a personal one or a junket.

His message on this trip to residents in both territories was that “the NDP has your backs.

“We have a rich tradition of that,” he said.

“It’s a work trip for sure, but I always try to make time to see more of the places I’m visiting,” he told a reporter.

Much of his focus was on talking about the rising cost of living and the effect skyrocketing inflation is having on Canadians.

He noted that’s particularly true in northern communities, which already face higher costs when compared to most places in the south.

“My purpose was to hear from the people,” Singh declared.

He said housing, health care (particularly the shortage of front-line workers) and connectivity issues (in the wake of recent outages) were all subjects he heard a great deal about during the trip here, particularly at meet-and-greets.

He also met with Indigenous representatives and heard their concerns.

“It was an incredible reception in the Yukon,” he said. “There was lots of positivity.”

That didn’t mean he escaped without a few hard questions about the party’s policies – in particular the agreement to keep the federal Liberal minority government in power through 2025.

The two parties signed the Supply and Confidence agreement last March (see related story below).

As well, Singh spent some time picking Yukon NDP Leader Kate White’s brains about her experience with the country’s only other confidence and supply agreement that’s currently in effect. The three NDP MLAs are keeping Premier Sandy Silver’s minority Liberal government in power.

The Yukon version has been in effect for more than a year.

Singh – who mentioned it to national media in Ottawa when he signed his own agreement with the federal Liberals – was interested in hearing how the Yukon deal has worked to help guide the federal accord.

His approach, though, is a little different than White’s.

“There’s a lot of similarities, a similar scenario, and we’re learning as we go,” Singh said. “We’re learning as we go. I’m very confident progress is being made.”

He seemed surprised to hear that White has said publicly that she has no intention of pulling the plug on the territorial agreement, which is currently set to expire in January 2023. That’s not his preferred approach to the concept.

“I’m not afraid to do that,” he said of killing the accord if the Liberals don’t live up to it.

“It’s a challenging framework and we’re only four months into it,” he added. “I keep telling people to give it, and us, time to make it work.”

“When I say that, people say, ‘that makes sense.’

“The last election was just over a year ago, and it was the second election in a row to create a minority government. The message is clear, and we must respect what people said.”

The new agreement, he said, will create near-universal dental coverage for Canadians, and introduce free pharmacare for the public.

Work is underway to create the necessary legislation to accomplish that, and should be introduced sometime next year.

He scoffed at the swirling rumours the Liberals are planning a November election, just two months past the one-year anniversary of the 2021 election.

He didn’t entirely shut the door on the possibility, though.

“I don’t see any evidence of that happening. However, the Liberals are always focused on themselves, and that’s why they would do something like that.”

Was it just me, or did others see that media photo of all the National Destruction Party comrades together?
The thousand words it spoke to me, were only a few.
The four horse persons of the apocalypse is what I seen.

So outta touch with their bogus virtue, the SJW campaign that they will support the SS and Emperor Blackface for their very own gain.

I think the casas are the most progressive advancement in politics lately. I can see them continuing to be most effective in the future.

S'matter Hammer?
60's comments cut too close to the bone? Democracy got sold out with nothing but their own self-interests at stake. Yet they still believe they are Honorable some how. To be an effective politician you must first be okay with lying to yourself.

The NDP once stood for workers.

Now, it represents fringe interests and actively works to suppress and demonize popular worker movements. Like the Freedom Convoy. Hard to find any group that is more blue collar than truckers.

I did not vote for a Singh/Trudeau government. Nor did I vote for a White/Silver government. These people hate ordinary working class folks.

I am truly disappointed in Kate. Her level of hypocrisy is on another level. Jaydeau wheels into town on a covert mission to wave his rolex at the 6 people who actually attended. Wasn't it Kate who wanted a Rent Cap, for those who could not help themselves YET she is hand and hand with the guy who has influenced inflation as much as little spud himself. Kate, Jag, JT and Freeland have zero pulse on the people of this country, always always trying to get a vote it's a disgrace.

Singh claims to be concerned about inflation. Such hypocrisy! This inflation is the result of the irrational covid lockdowns and mandates supported by the NDP, creating supply shortages, bankruptcies, CERB payouts, and incurring an unprecedented enormous national debt. Experts warned that inflation would be the consequence of these lockdowns, which Trudeau imposed against the will of the majority of Canadians, and which by the way never solved the ‘pandemic’. The only way Trudeau’s minority government was able to do that is because they were propped up by Singh’s NDP.

The most galling is that at the time of the nation-wide truckers’ protests in February 2022 against vax mandates, Singh said he was supporting Trudeau’s call for Emergency Measures in a parliamentary vote specifically because if it didn’t get passed it would trigger a non-confidence vote which would trigger federal elections. How did Singh dare to claim that Canadians didn’t want an election at this time! When the country was going through the greatest protests ever in its history against absurd and destructive vax mandates and lockdowns!

The real reason is that Singh knew only too well that if a federal election would have taken place, the NDP would have been voted out, as well as Trudeau’s Libs. Singh’s manoeuver in this matter was a major blow to Canadian democracy. The same can be said of the Yukon NDP.

NDP with the liberals have caused more pain in Yukon and Canada for people than any government in history of Canada except when PE Trudeau was in power.

“It’s a challenging framework and we’re only four months into it,” he added. “I keep telling people to give it, and us, time to make it work.”
So what indicators will be used to show it is beginning to work? Reduced inflation? A lower cost to heat our homes and travel to work? Better supports for the infirm and seniors?
Let's get back to a democratically elected government and stop these marriges of convienience that do nothing other than to prop up bloated, egotistical disfunctional Liberal governments. Show some respect for the citizens you took an oath to serve.

Four Marxists of the Repulsive. And two commies each propping up a marxist liberal government. Canada will never be the same. And how did the Yukon get itself into so much socialist crap? I can only weep for future generations.

Absolutely hilarious… An incredible reception to a covert visit to the Yukon.

Singh is singing out of tune. He is a manipulator just like his puppet master Trudeau:

What’s so interesting is that there was widespread mainstream media coverage when Singh faced an angry crowd that could be smeared as "racist," yet when people in the Sikh community criticize Singh it is almost completely ignored by the media.

This shows that instead of attempting to inform the public and provide people with the facts, the establishment press is trying to manipulate and control the public.

They are seeking to demonize pro-freedom Canadians and call us all "racists" and "bigots," so they are desperate to avoid showing that opposition to the dishonest Trudeau-Singh pact is widespread among Canadians of all possible backgrounds.

Watch the embedded video - Sellout Singh sings a high note! He puts the false in falsetto!
