Friends have confirmed athat Shannon Ciboci, from Inuvik, N.W.T., was the victim of a fatal crash near Pelly Crossing last week.

Cibocci was born in raised in Inuvik, and was the mother to three sons.

In 2016, she was the volunteer co-ordinator for the Great Northern Arts Festival.

The pan-northern visual and performing arts festival just completed its 28th annual summer in Inuvik.

A post on the festival’s Facebook page describes the young Inuvialuit woman as “a vivacious spirit, a beautiful woman with a bright future, a devoted mother to three beautiful boys.

“She will be remembered for going above and beyond as a volunteer co-ordinator in 2016,” it adds.

Ciboci died last Wednesday night, after the GMC truck in which she was a passenger left the North Klondike Highway and rolled into the ditch. It had been travelling south toward Whitehorse.

The 33-year-old male driver, whose name was not released, and a two-year-old passenger sustained injuries from the accident.

They were transported via air ambulance to Whitehorse General Hospital for treatment.
