The coroner and the fire marshal's office are investigating after the body of a 69-year-old woman was found Monday inside the burned-down remains of a home in Ibex Valley.
Yukon coroner Kirsten MacDonald this morning identified the deceased as Donna Tull.
The coroner's service and fire marshal Dennis Berry are continuing their investigation of the fire.
No cause has been determined so far, though the cause is not suspicious at this point, MacDonald said.
Firefighters were called to the home off the Old Alaska Highway at around 2:50 p.m.
When members of the Ibex Valley Volunteer Fire Department arrived, they called for help from the Hootalinqua and Golden Horn volunteer fire departments as well as the Whitehorse Fire Department and EMS.
In total, about 15 to 20 firefighters were on the scene. Neighbours also assisted.
"There were reports that the homeowner was in the building,” Berry said.
Firefighters made efforts to advance into the single-family design home, but the entire structure was destroyed, he said.
Firefighters continued battling the blaze until it was put out at around 10 p.m.
Berry was quick to praise the many volunteer firefighters who dropped what they were doing to go to the scene to help fight the fire Monday afternoon.
He pointed out that this week is Volunteer Appreciation Week, and encouraged others to think about volunteering with the fire department.
