The human remains discovered last week at a house fire along the Old Alaska Highway in the Ibex Valley area have been identified as those of Gordon Ross Seybold, age 63.

Seybold's body was discovered last Wednesday during a fire scene investigation.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at approximately 6 a.m. and remained there until 4:30 that afternoon.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was inconclusive, the RCMP said last week.

Although an autopsy was conducted, police said they are currently unable to provide further details on the cause of Seybold's death.

"We're going to investigate (the fatality) as suspect until proven otherwise," an RCMP spokesman said this morning.

Gord Seybold was one of my best friends during our formative teenage years in Hudson, Quebec. I am saddened by his death and would love to hear from anyone who knew him in Whitehorse.
