The Yukon Housing Corp. (YHC) has lost its president to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
The Yukon Housing Corp. (YHC) has lost its president to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
Pamela Hine has announced her departure from the YHC.
Premier Sandy Silver announced last Thursday that Mary Cameron will be the acting president for a year, effective Apr. 10.
“I want to thank Pam Hine for her years of leadership at the Yukon Housing Corporation,” said Pauline Frost, the minister responsible for the YHC.
“Through her work in both Nunavut and Yukon, Pam has been a tireless public servant, dedicated to improving housing in Canada’s northern territories.
“The corporation has achieved much during her tenure. I look forward to working closely with Mary Cameron to continue this important work.”
Hine has been with the Yukon government since 2007.
Cameron began her public service career in the Yukon as the director of capacity development with the Carcross/Tagish First Nation.
In 2013, she moved to the YHC, where she was the director of community partnering and lending before becoming the vice-president of corporate services in 2016.
Previous to joining the public service, she was the principal of St. Margaret’s School in Victoria.
Cameron has a bachelor of education from the University of Victoria, a certificate in risk management from the University of Toronto and a master’s in administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix.
“Mary Cameron has a strong track record as a highly effective senior leader with the Yukon Housing Corporation, and I look forward to continuing to work with her on the many initiatives under Yukon’s Housing Action Plan,” said Silver.
“I would like to sincerely thank Pam Hine for her support and leadership, and I wish her every success in her future endeavours.”
Deputy ministers, including presidents of Crown corporations, are the most senior public servants in government departments.
They are responsible for the departments’ budgets, day-to-day operations and program development.
They serve at the pleasure of the premier and take direction from the minister responsible for their department.

Better times ahead? on Mar 13, 2020 at 4:50 pm
The housing industry has never been in worse shape than it is right now. What exactly did Ms Hine do for the $200K per year we taxpayers paid her? I, for one, am happy to hear of Hine's departure. Hopefully Ms Cameron will do a whole lot better than Hine who only made things worse over time.

What exactly did Hine achieve at YHC? There's still a huge shortage of affordable housing...

YHC has gone downhill for years, all flash no show. Programs have been decimated, staff has increased, social housing costs gone through the roof and transfer payments to operate YHC have quadrupled....ya good work and way to go ! promote internally.

This may be a cosmetic move to smooth out things at the mush beleaguered YHC.
What is required is a complete audit of operations and procedures into this autocratic den of bureaucracy. From the ridiculous triage system of points in which higher bracket income earners will never make it to the assignment slot in spite of paying taxes here for a lifetime. They may see someone brought here from who knows where, helped to achieve residency and moved into one of those nice spots that some other life long Yukoner paid for, well ahead of that unsuspecting Yukoner. The monthly check-in program is another laisse- faire phone-in scam with absolutely less than nothing for accountability. It's all in the bureaucratic empire's hands and go pump wind if you don't like it. Empire building at it's finest with impunity.
