The Yukon Party has tabled a motion urging the territorial government to donate to the Red Cross to help Syrian and Turkish earthquake victims, as it has with previous disasters around the world.

“Yukoners, like the rest of the world, were horrified at the images coming out of Türkiye and Syria after a major earthquake rattled the region on February 6,” the party said.

Last Thursday’s motion reads: “THAT this House urges the Government of Yukon to support the Yukon Muslim Society Inc.’s campaign to help individuals impacted by the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria by donating to the Red Cross, as it has done for other emergencies.”

“Our hearts go out to affected residents in Türkiye and Syria,” Opposition Leader Currie Dixon.

“I know many Yukoners have stepped up with donations and support for the recovery effort, and I would hope that the Yukon government does the same.”
