Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be in Whitehorse later this month, part of another summer tour to promote Arctic sovereignty.
On Friday, officals from the PMO confirmed the five-day tour that will allow reporters to follow Harper as he visits Nunavut, the N.W.T. and the Yukon between Aug. 17 and Aug. 21.
Last summer, Harper stopped into Dawson City to press the flesh and announce a series of federal commitments to the North, including the establishment of a northern development agency.
Destinations on this year's visit include Iqaluit, Pangirtung, Yellowknife and Whitehorse.
"We're still putting together (Harper's) schedule so specifics are yet to be determined," Karine Leroux, deputy press secretary for the prime minister, told the Star today.
"There will be public appearances and announcments, but beyond that, I can't provide further information."
In addition to witnessing the annual Operation Nanook Arctic sovereignty exercise, Harper will visit HMCS Toronto patrol frigate by helicopter and tour a Canadian submarine on active duty.
The tour begins with a cabinet meeting in Iqaluit, marking the second summer in a row that the Harper cabinet has met in the North. Last year, Harper selected Inuvik, N.W.T. for the meeting.
