Whitehorse RCMP arrested two people and seized more than a half-pound of cocaine Thursday morning after responding to a routine call about a disturbance downtown.
Desmond Murray Davies, 27, and Krista Marie Dawson, 18, were held in custody and made their first court appearances Thursday afternoon.
Davies has four drug charges, two for possession and two for possession with the purpose of trafficking, while the young woman is charged with simple possession and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Whitehorse RCMP officers were called at 3:30 a.m. Thursday with a complaint about a fight outside a Jeckell Street residence.
Upon arresting a man who'd been in the fight, they searched him, Sgt. John Sutherland, RCMP spokesman, said this morning. Officers found 4.7 grams of cocaine and two grams of marijuana.
Further investigation linked the scrapper to a downtown hotel room. When officers arrived at the room, they found a young woman and a half-pound of cocaine, along with seven grams of marijuana.
Meanwhile, a resident of the South McClintock area of Marsh Lake came home to find the residence ransacked and $25,000 in jewelry missing.
The break-in was reported shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday. Entry was gained via a door, but it doesn't appear the door was locked.
The house had been essentially turned upside down by the intruders, Sutherland said.
On the long list of jewelry missing is gold nugget items such as a bracelet, earrings, ring, pendant, lapel pin and several separate gold nuggets.
Also missing is a man's gold wedding band, an antique engagement ring and a lapel pin and earrings with gold rams on them.
Another break-in was reported at 6:46 p.m. Thursday on MacPherson Road in the subdivision of the same name.
A resident arrived home to find a door forced open and the house left in a general state of disarray, said Sutherland. A computer, stereo equipment, CDs, alcohol and cigars were stolen.
And also in Riverdale, a 16-year-old boy was tracked early this morning from a car with slashed tires. He was found with a knife on him, Sutherland said.
At least five vehicle owners reported having their tires slashed overnight in Riverdale.
