Group hopes for clear sailing for planned camp projects

Youngsters spending their summer on Schwatka Lake learning to sail through day camps may notice a few improvements coming to the camps this summer.
That’s provided the plans of the Yukon Breeze Sailing Society are approved.
Currently in the public comment period for a Yukon Environmental and Socioeconomic Assessment Board (YESAB) review, the sailing society is proposing to build boat launches, an outhouse and have storage space.
The group has been partnering with BC Sailing’s Mobile Optimist Sailing School since 2008 to bring courses to Whitehorse and Marsh Lake.
However, as it’s noted on its website, “The success of the MOSS program laid the foundation to create a Yukon-based sailing school, independent from BC Sailing.”
That has the local group planning for a number of sailing courses this summer with various day camps planned for youth between the ages of six and 14 in July and August.
At the same time, from May to October, the group also hopes to be working to build a boat launch, install floating docks and so on, making the sailing hub a more permanent fixture on the east side of Schwatka Lake.
As its stated in YESAB documents: “The proposed project involves clearing of approximately 230 square metres of land for the purpose of constructing a boat launch, installing of floating docks and establishing a sailing camp on the east shore of Schwatka Lake.”
The group has applied for a land use permit from the territory for the site as well.
A similar proposal was also brought forward – this time to the city in 2014, when it was considering an overall plan for Schwatka Lake – from the group then under the MOSS title.
Officials then noted that while they were looking to have storage and other facilities available last year, their plans to operate the day camps would go ahead regardless. The camps had been operated for a number of years in the area.
Residents have until March 25 to submit comments on the proposal through the YESAB website at www.yesabregistry.ca or by calling 1-866-322-4040.

So when is the vote to ban boats with motors COW? You have it all wrong - you just keep setting it up for a clash with all these special interest groups. Why don't you clear the snow, fix the pot holes and stop this bull S#$t.

Awesome...yet another special interest group that want our cash and get their piece of dirt/water for their elitist adventures.
....but it's for the kiddies...they will be crack heads if they are not able to go sailing...I guess...seemed to work well for SIMA sinkhole?
Folks there are soooooo many beggars in this place using your money for those ideas of personal interests under the guise of community.
If folks think skiing is elitist, sailing I can assure you is more so.
How long ya think before Bif & Muffy complain about those "outboard engines" "noisy aircraft"...and (gasp) non sailors using "their" docks...on their lake.
I suspect soon will be thinking so.
Can we not put a moratorium on funding any more special interest groups?
As it has far surpassed the level of stupid...looooong ago!
