Governor General Michaelle Jean will visit Whitehorse and the Yukon for the first time next month.

June 17-21 will mark Jean's first official visit to the Yukon, the only Canadian province or territory she hasn't visited since she became governor general in August 2005.

Prior visits have been lined up on a couple occasions, according to Pamela Bangart, the Yukon government's chief of protocol, but due to scheduling conflicts, things haven't worked out.

It's been two years since the last visit by Adrienne Clarkson, the former governor general.

Jean's actual itinerary has yet to be set, but should be firmed up within the next couple of weeks. The plan is for Jean to visit a couple of communities during her four-day stay.

She will be involved in discussions about a variety of issues, which also have yet to be announced.
