The Yukon government is consolidating many of its economic initiatives, particularly for COVID-19 support, into one overarching plan.
The move was announced late last Wednesday afternoon during a news conference with Ranj Pillai, the deputy premier and Economic Development minister, and Jeanie McLean, the minister of Tourism and Culture.
The government is calling the new approach an “Economic Resilience Plan”. Pillai called it a “blueprint” for government action.
A news release that followed the news conference stated “the Government of Yukon has released its economic resilience plan to help Yukon’s economy rebound with responsiveness and adaptability while Yukoners remain safe and healthy.
“The economic resilience plan is a strategic response that looks at current planned projects and programs with an eye to maximizing benefits while outlining new initiatives to support Yukoners as we adapt and build economic resilience.”
Pillai explained the plan “charts the government’s economic response to the pandemic and how we are adapting to build economic resilience. It identifies five key areas of focus: people, jobs, business supports, infrastructure development and economic diversification.
“It’s a signal we’re ready to get the economy going,” he said.
It’s also a framework to enable the government to get ready to spend the money allocated in the budget,” he added. The $1.8-billion budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year was tabled last Thursday.
The release boasted “the Yukon led the country in developing vital economic programs and supports in response to the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19.
“The economic resilience plan reflects a commitment to adapt programs to meet the needs of the businesses and sectors so they can contribute to a thriving, prosperous and diversified Yukon economy.”
Pillai said the government has offered more than $44.8 million in supports across the Yukon’s economic sectors through expanded programming, new initiatives and waived or deferred fees.

Actually Joe, NVD will come to power if the Yukon Party (conservatives) wins the election. Their head office is full of the Yukon Party's executive and former staffers. That's where most of them ended up after the last election. Plus half of the Yukon Party candidates were all cabinet ministers in the Pasloski government. The band is back together! and NVD is just rubbing its hands together waiting for Mr.Dixon to give them preferential treatment and access.

No business in the Yukon should feel unsupported by this Liberal governing body.

What a coicidence...for a snap election the Premier claimed was a last minute cabinet decision after previously being outraged by election questions, the Libs sure had fancy signs ready to go.
Their economic plan is as full of BS as they are!

Just totally up the facts that your liberal government put out that are not correct !!!
Can't do hip operations in Yukon yet and not set up for it.
No mental doctors where your government stated there is one in each community. That would be at least 10 and how many do we have living in Yukon 1 or 2 maybe?
Not treating small business fair like liquor venders giving one group an advantage over others.
You stated housing prices will drop when there is a shortage of lots but prices still continue to go up.
Not consulting with small business to see what can help them which you stated you are doing.
Instead of supporting small business, gave large businesses which are not owned by Yukoners, the ability to make money.
You stated you would give back all of the carbon tax Yukoners paid. We're still waiting for our money.
Wasting money on a project like the new operation building that was supposed to cost $43.5 million but actual cost $60 million more according to City of Whitehorse mayor and your government approved it.
Now that mayor is running for the liberal party.
