A fundraising event will be held Saturday for an ailing Whitehorse girl at Paddy’s Juke Joint.

“Our treasured two-year-old daughter, Syleff Fox, is currently a patient at BC Children’s Hospital, and has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia,” Sarah Newton said Tuesday.

“We were emergency medivaced from Whitehorse early in the morning on Sept. 28 after Syleff had been presenting with a fever for about a week,” Newton said.

“She had gone into septic shock from a Group A Strep infection because of her compromised immune response.

“Syleff spent three weeks fighting for her life in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.”

The girl’s kidneys were damaged, and she also has micro hemorrhages in her cerebellum and critical illness neuropathy in her legs and throughout her body.

Despite the serious nature of her infection, she has made a miraculous recovery and will now be undergoing chemotherapy in Vancouver for the next 6-8 months.

She will also need to undergo intensive rehabilitation at Sunnyhill Children’s Rehabilitation Centre to learn how to walk again and regain her strength and mobility.

“She has received the most excellent care possible so far, and she is on the mend and so far tolerating her chemotherapy as well as could be hoped for,” Newton said.

“We are so grateful for the excellent care of our team here at Children’s Hospital and the Sunnyhill Rehabilitation Centre.”

Donations can also be made by e transfer to loveforsyleff@gmail.com.

You can follow the Love for Syleff group on Facebook for updates on her recovery.

Saturday’s fundraiser will start at 9 p.m.

Ben Mahoney, Ryan McNally and Speed Control will perform, and there will be a silent auction and a paper crane folding table.

A family-friendly event was held last weekend at Heart of Riverdale, featuring a kids’ dance party and work on folding 1,000 paper cranes.

“We are so grateful for the amount of community support so far,” Newton said.

I was diagnosed with AML leukaemia, in 2011, followed by a bone marrow transplant in 2012. There are so many amazing treatments they can implement for a patient these days. So many adults and children make a complete recovery. God bless your baby girl, saying prayers for a healthy recovery .
