Fourth wheel back to normal

After a month of unpredictable power outages, Yukon Energy says it hopes the problem is now fixed.
Spokesperson Janet Patterson said this morning the problem was the fourth turbine's governor, specifically with the control valve.
An expert from B.C. was contracted to come to Whitehorse to solve the problem, after Yukon Energy staff were unable to solve the problem responsible for two major power outages in the month of August.
'He has a lot of knowledge in this area,' said Patterson of the B.C. expert.
Both outages left Whitehorse and surrounding area residents without power, some for as long as two hours. The city also had to use diesel power for a short time.
Once the expert and Yukon Energy crew fixed the control valve, they ran the fourth wheel at limited capacity over the Discovery Day long weekend to test their work.
'It has been put back to work at 100 per cent capacity, and has been on since then,' said Watson. 'We certainly hope this has solved the problem, we believe it did.'
Yukon Energy did not have figures available as to the costs of repair nor of contracting the B.C. expert.
