Whitehorse RCMP hope to return found bicycles to their owners.

A local resident recently turned in two adult-sized bikes to police after being unable to locate the owners.

The investigating officers checked databanks but are unable to link the bikes to an incident or occurrence that was previously reported to police, police said last Thursday.

“These found bikes emphasize the importance of recording serial numbers on bicycles and other valuable possessions,” said Sgt. Jolene Nason.

“When you buy a new bike, it’s a good idea to take a photo of the serial number and save it on the camera roll of your phone or write it down somewhere safe, so that you have it in case it is needed. she added.

“Knowing a serial number is the most efficient way for us to link a recovered item to its rightful owner.”

To claim the bikes, the owners can call the RCMP at 667-5551.

Anyone hoping to recover their missing bicycle will be asked to provide information about the colour, make and model, serial number, as well as any other identifying features.

“Thank you to the considerate Whitehorse citizen who turned these bicycles in to the RCMP!” police said.

Don’t mess with the have-nots’ share a ride program… Been getting drunk and stoned teenagers from point A to point B at all hours of the night for decades… It’s tradition!
