Former Yukoner is now wanted by police in Texas

A former Whitehorse man convicted in 2002 of sexual interference with a nine-year-old girl is now wanted by the San Antonio Police Department in Texas.
In a statement, the department said William Engle is wanted for failing to register as a sex offender in San Antonio.
It is required by Texas law.
Sgt. Gabe Trevino of the San Antonio department told the Star today the requirement stems from the Yukon conviction.
Engel's last known address was at 17811 Winter Hill, San Antonio.
A similar charge was dropped in 2003 in Oklahoma, when a deal was worked out for Engle to actually register.
At the time, prosecutor Pamela Hammers said that because Engle had been convicted of both sexual interference and possession of child pornography in Canada, the charge of failing to register was on a thin line.
Statutes were unclear whether an offender has to register in the U.S. for convictions outside of the country, she said at the time.
The prosecution thought he should register though, and the deal was worked out for him to register in exchange for the charge being dropped.
This morning, Trevino said he doesn't know whether that case could impact this matter.
Engle was deported from the Yukon back to the U.S. after the sexual interference conviction.
Anyone with information on Engle is asked to contact the San Antonio Police Department at (210)207-2313 or Crime Stoppers at (210) 224-STOP.
