A former Yukoner who was taken to Victoria General Hospital with life threatening injuries earlier this month after a major vehicle collision in Campbell River, B.C. is in stable condition and may be moved from the intensive care unit of the hospital today.

Suzanne Germain, spokeswoman for Victoria General Hospital, said this morning Torie Gerard is doing better and could be moved out of the unit today.

Due to patient confidentiality, Germain could not provide details on the extent of Gerard's injuries.

Gerard, who grew up in the territory and was a graduate of Vanier Catholic Secondary School, was in a major collision on Aug. 13.

A statement by Campbell River RCMP on Aug. 14 notes that a Nissan pickup and Dodge Shadow collided at the Inland Highway and Jubilee Parkway intersection around 10:20 p.m. the night before.

Gerard was one of two 22-year-old North Vancouver women in the Dodge that was travelling north on Inland Highway. A 36-year-old Campbell River man was travelling south and in the process of turning east onto Jubilee Parkway when the two vehicles collided.

All three were taken to the Campbell River Hospital, with Gerard being moved to Victoria General Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Campbell River RCMP.

Gerard was attending the University of Victoria.
