A car crash on Salt Spring Island, B.C. has claimed the life of a former Yukoner.

Reid Parent, who grew up in the territory, was found dead Sunday morning as the passenger of a vehicle discovered in a ditch along the 1700 block of Fulford Ganges Road in the B.C. community.

In a statement Sunday, Salt Spring Island RCMP said they were called to the scene at around 9:30 a.m., where they found "extensive damage” to the late model Dodge car in the ditch.

Parent, 25 and a resident of Salt Spring Island, was found dead in the vehicle.

The female driver, also 25 and a resident of Victoria, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said.

In an interview this morning, Cpl. Martin Beardshere said further details aren't yet available as the investigation is continuing, with officers yet to speak with the driver.

The Coroner Service of British Columbia, Island District analyst/reconstructionist and crash investigation team are all involved in the investigation with crews set to revisit the scene today, Beardshere said.

Parent had a profile in the territory for his work with local youth and his membership in a band.

I'm happy to have met Reid--he was an incredible guy who always had a smile on his face. We used to play music together in a friend's basement. I have nothing but fond memories of him. My condolences to his family.

See you in another life, man.

I had the pleasure of growing up on the same street as Reid and his sister.

I will miss him tremendously despite the fact that I haven't seen him in a while.

My thoughts are with Leah and Daisy.

I hope they both know they are loved immensely by the community.

Reid was one of the most amazing people I have had the chance to meet in my time.. he touched so many people through high school and afterword. He was there to be a shoulder to cry on or just someone to hang out with. He will live on through his beautiful music and his friends that will always remember for the rest of our days, the world has lost one of there most prized people well at least in my eyes. Rest in peace my friend you will always be loved and rememberd xoxo

This is terrible to hear about the death of someone who was so full of life, joy and music.

I remember Reid hosting the gym stage at Frostbite in 2006 - a screaming vision in animalistic body paint from the waist right on up through his hair.

My heartfelt condolences to Reid's birth and extended family - the Parent and the Lemphers and to his entire Canadian music family.

I also count myself among those lucky people who grew up with Reid. We were in the MAD program together, and spent a lot of time together in our teens. I'm so very sad to hear about his untimely passing, he was a truly funny, unique, incredible individual and will be very missed. My heart goes out to his mother and sister.

Such terrible, terrible news.

Reid was such a character - had such a spirit about him. Creative, funny as hell. It's such a loss for Yukon, for Saltspring Island, for whoever met him, 'cause he had that way.

My thoughts are with his family. I'm so sorry.

Rest In Peace pal. You will be missed.

I was lucky enough to have grown up around Reid as a youth but it wasn't until these past few years that I really got to know him. He will always be held with the warmest regards, and remembered for his infectious smile and unbelievable showmanship.Performance artist, musician, true friend, goodbye buddy, love you.
