A former Hidden Valley Elementary School educational assistant has pleaded not guilty to seven charges involving the alleged sexual abuse of two students.

William Auclaire-Bellemare was represented Wednesday by a lawyer appearing remotely, speaking on his behalf.

The charges include sexual interference, sexual assault, and invitation to sexual touching relating to one incident, and invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault and forcible confinement in another.

The alleged incidents occurred at Hidden Valley between 2015 and 2017.

Auclaire-Bellemare has previously been convicted of sexual interference relating to an incident in 2019, and served a jail term.

You are right on the money - HR Hiring on May 25, 2022 at 6:54 am:

It is a well researched phenomenon that HR departments are practically incapable of hiring suitable candidates for a position. They are poorly educated individuals advancing unknowable subject ideals. This is even before we consider the gender-based, race-based hiring preferences.

One only has to look at the internal conflict within GY and the very high turnover rates in the dis-Organization. It is a mess of generalized incompetence!

Daniel Kahneman (2011) is a Nobel Prize winner who writes about the psychology of our economic system - Studies consistently demonstrate the uselessness of HR departments because they tend to think in terms of irrelevancies such as fit for purpose, fit for team. This is why the fail - biases which outwardly reflected are prejudices.

This story is a side-bar to the bigger story of how YG screwed up in dealing with this sexual offender. Are YG's hiring processes working well? It would appear not if someone with a criminal conviction of sexual interference can get a job working with young children. This another example of government covering its ass for mistakes made and there will be no accountability for their failures. And the clowns in charge are called honourable- what a sad, sad state of affairs.
Please Kate, pull the life support plug and get these idiots out before they do even more harm to the Yukon.

Hidden Valley time frame on May 25, 2022 at 3:45 pm

I know the article says, "Auclaire-Bellemare has previously been convicted of sexual interference relating to an incident in 2019, and served a jail term." But didn't these new charges evolve around this original charge? Therefore YG wouldn't have hired a registered sex offender, he was already in the school. The new charges are from 2015 to 2017. There will be more, I'm sure, but they really are all inclusive of his timeframe at Hidden Valley.

What happened is horrific.

What should be of concern is that this is a convicted sex offender. So how does a convicted sex offender navigate the Human Resources practises of the Government?! Surely these practices would red flag this pedophile when an RCMP check is completed? Would a CPIC not filter this predator out?

Perhaps the hiring practices need a revisit? Perhaps the hiring practices screen in the wrong people and screen out the ones that are suitable.

Ashamed! on May 24, 2022 at 10:53 am

Let me guess at the outcome - Deputy Dog Phelps will intervene in the administration of Justice on behalf of No Legitimacy McPhee and there will be a finding of not guilty to preserve the image of the Courts and the system.
It’s not like it hasn’t happened before in the Yukon under this same administration… In fact, it is a routine occurrence here in the Yukon!

Kind of concerning to note that the elite of Whitehorse have their own little fight club. But these were friends of the PPSC - A disgusting not so well kept secret right in front of the public eye.
If I were the Ombudsman I’d be leaving for Alberta too… The government willfully violates its own processes in the manipulation of their public image.

But hey, gotta protect that image!

Auclaire-Bellemare has previously been convicted of sexual interference relating to an incident in 2019, and served a jail term. AND, the predator was turned loose for another go at the defenseless. Innocent until proven guilty? Yes..well..the children that identified this person, not just one child..several..are to be believed. For me? i have sons and daughters, he is guilty and should be put away forever.

PLEASE CLARIFY IF I MISUNDERSTAND THIS BUT,

"Auclaire-Bellemare has previously been convicted of sexual interference relating to an incident in 2019, and served a jail term."

Am I to understand that this educational employee was previously a convicted sexual offender? More to the point, what YTG idiot liability allowed them to be hired to begin with? Do you not screen for specifics such as these so as to protect the student body? Better half of a decade of such troubling convictions and allegations just glanced over, one could imagine the professionalism of the government shining through in this hiring process? So whose cousin in YTG is he?
