A Whitehorse man who went missing on Monday evening is safe at home with his family today.

Luke Lacasse, 76, was found north of Carmacks at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The RCMP immediately contacted his wife, who then called on some family friends in Carmacks to bring him home.

"It was an ordeal," she told the Star today. "He didn't eat or anything while he was gone."

But, she said, both Lacasse and his dog, Beau, are recovering nicely.

She said Lacasse, who suffers from dementia, was probably trying to go home.

Lacasse became the first elected mayor of Carmacks in 1985 and served until 1991.

He was re-elected in 1996 and served until his retirement in 2003.
