Whitehorse RCMP arrested five youth on Saturday evening after they allegedly attempted to break into a local restaurant.

Police said today four females and one male were arrested and charged in connection with a break and enter attempt at the Burnt Toast Cafe.

A concerned citizen called the police at around 10:16 that night to report a group of youth were attempting to break into the restaurant.

Information the citizen provided – a detailed description of the youth and their direction of travel – on top of police cars in the area led to quick arrests, police said.

While the attempted break-in caused damage to the restaurant, neither police nor the restaurant manager would provide any details about it this morning.

Police could not release any information pertaining to the youths’ identities, as they are minors.

“In this incident, we are thankful that an alert citizen not only called the police instantly, they also provided excellent descriptions and direction of travel,” said police spokesperson Cpl. Natasha Dunmall.

To report suspicious individuals or activities, people can call the RCMP’s non-emergency line at 667-5555 x1, or 911 for emergencies.

It's time the minors and parents in Whitehorse are accountable for their actions. All they ever get is a slap on the wrist!! Do you remember when the new Canada games Centre was set on fire? Kids again! DO you think they have remorse for that, they just don't get it!!!!

Since its largely the fault of the school system and the youth's parents they should simply have to apologize.
Robbery is a crime but let's spare the children.

I certainly hope the parents of these youths are forced to pay all damages.

We need to start charging these kids as adults that is the only way they will learn.

Release their names on social media so society can deal with them. The court system will give them a slap on the wrist; oh wait no they won't. They will have to say they are sorry and promise not to do it again!
