Yukon Wildand Fire Management officials continue to have their hands full with blazes around the territory.

A plume of smoke near Grey Mountain Monday evening caught many people’s attention.

“Thank you to the Yukoners who called in the smoke northeast of Grey Mountain,” Wildand Fire Management stated on social media at around 9 p.m. Monday.

“The fire is 1.5 hectares in our strategic response zone. An air tanker team and helicopter have been deployed to respond and resources will return tomorrow morning.”

An update provided early this afternoon stated, “Last night airtankers successfully boxed the fire in with retardant at 3 hectares in size. Resources will be back at the fire today. The fire may continue to be visible while suppression takes place.

“The fire has since doubled in size, but department officials say it doesn't pose any immediate risk to the city.

“It’s about 20 kilometres away currently, despite the clearly visible smoke.”

Eighteen new fires have started in the last 24 hours.

Stewart Crossing remains under an evacuation alert due to a fire in that region.

The Yukon has been burned, every single one of us… When the Liberals were elected. When they were re-elected we got burned beyond good… Many however did not realize it…

Most people learn to pull away when they feel the heat… Liberals not so much! For them life is one big barbecue and it never occurs to them that they have created a living hell here on earth wherever they insert and assert themselves…

Patti, Nathan - if you are gonna let a little fire come between you, might I suggest some gin and tonics?

I’m sad for you Nathan, you only think about money and spending money, the world is so much more complex than that’s I’ll pray for you!

Have to agree. Much of the Yukon needs a good burn.

Nathan Living, Wildland Fire does exactly what you’re saying they should do. Wilderness fires that are not threatening structures or any assets are left to burn.
Try harder.

If the gov needs some more fire suppression crews, there’s a whole lot of young fellers loitering around outside the old Sally Anne. Seem eager and ready for some honest work.

Maybe time to protect towns and just let the rest of the Yukon burn.

We waste so much money trying to fight wildfires and trying to protect salmon stocks and trying to stop the opioid crisis. Let's just give up and let the dark side take over.
