Whitehorse RCMP are working with other agencies to investigate a suspicious fire that occurred at a construction site last weekend in Porter Creek.

At 12:30 a.m. last Saturday, the RCMP and Whitehorse Fire Department were called to assist at a building on fire on Wann Road.

When it was extinguished, investigators found extensive property damage to the building.

Information gathered at the scene led investigators to believe the blaze was suspicious.

Several specialized units were contacted to assist in gathering evidence and establishing the cause of the fire, including the fire marshall and the Whitehorse RCMP General Investigations Section.

“Working with our partners on investigations like this highlights the good work that so many people do to keep Whitehorse safe,” said Cpl. Brent Edwards, of the Whitehorse detachment operations support.

“We are relieved that there were no injuries to witnesses, first responders, or the general public.”

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the event to contact them at 667-5555.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers online or via phone at 667-6715.
