Whitehorse RCMP executed the final steps of a three-month-long undercover operation Thursday, arresting four men and seizing about $215,000 worth of drugs.

"This has netted people at the top-level,” RCMP spokesman Sgt. Don Rogers told the Star this morning.

"These aren't small-time dealers; these are guys at the top of the chain.”

A police informant was critical to the bust, Rogers added.

Police officers searched three homes, two in Whitehorse and one in Surrey, B.C.

They found approximately 1 1/5 kilograms of cocaine, 1,300 tablets of Ecstasy and more than $15,000 in cash, according to Rogers.

Officers arrested John "Yada” Vanderheide, 37, of Surrey; Liam Leslie, 33, of Whitehorse; Jesse "Dillon” Ritchie, 33, of Whitehorse; and Shaun "Duke” Naidu, 28, also of Whitehorse. All the men were arrested in the Yukon.

A warrant has been issued for Ryan "Bobby” Derkson of Whitehorse.

The men face various charges including trafficking and conspiracy to traffic cocaine, Ecstasy and anabolic steroids; and possession of stolen property.

The conspiracy charge is notable in the territory, Rogers said, as it is generally laid against people at the very top of the trafficking chain.

"It's pretty much unprecedented to nail guys for conspiracy here in the Yukon,” he said.

All of the men are known to police, Rogers said, including the Surrey man.

Rogers said additional charges related to stolen property and membership in a criminal organization will likely be laid as the RCMP continue their investigation.

"This isn't a fly-by-night operation,” the sergeant said. "This a very organized and complicated group.”

Police have not yet determined where the drugs originated from, he said, but the investigation continues.

Rogers said police expect they will recover more stolen property in the coming days.

The four men were scheduled to appear in court today.

"We are making it even more uncomfortable for people bringing drugs into the Yukon,” Rogers said.

"They're not welcome here, and we're going to make them feel it.”

LOL @ "jr shaw" - methinks you've been consuming too much of what these peddlers were selling instead of focusing on English class. Pretty hard to take what you say seriously when you can't even spell.

How is that so when I just ask the real questions people refuse to discuss? You people are the real definition of that word because your ignorance is creating this exact environment that you try to pawn off on me.

Sweet Francine. Everything is 'too bad' this and 'too bad' that. Gotta find a negative even when the RCMP take 4 coke dealers off the streets and send a message that this town is not welcoming to hard drugs.

And to say that these guy's aren't so bad and that they are providing a service to society with their coke dealing is bizarre in my opinion, unless you know them a whole lot better than I do (which is not at all), and can speak first hand about the service they provide. I'd say they are probably greedy, selfish, lazy little morons. But hey, that's just me.

All the same, you do make a point about needing to get to the root of addiction. And yes, you are voicing your opinion which is what these forums are all about. I just noticed that you are perpetually dyspeptic about things.

Jr. Shaw, you've got a point. We'll set aside the kilogram of cocaine, the thousand doses of ecstacy, and wait to see if these charmers are guilty of anything before we break out the news that they have been "CHARGED". Nobody is saying they have been 'found guilty' except you, in your post.

Great work! Worth the wait. I always wonder why so many drug houses and dealers operate with impunity in this town. Maybe they are just being watched so the police can bring them down in style! Keep up the good work. And I agree completely that photographs of the 'accused' would be a fine addition to the story.

Wow, way to go. Too bad legal pharmaceuticals cause more misery and addiction than people care to talk about. Too bad these people arnt the demons you make them out to be (drug dealers) they provide a service that people demand. Sorry but your whole angle of saving the children from these dealers falls on deaf ears. Because guess what? Your kids do go to these people, and are not forced. Until you attack the root of addiction this problem will never go away, no matter how many people you bust.

GET YOUR STORY RIGHT. DON'T WRITE THINGS THAT ARE FALSE JUST TO GET A RISE OUT OF THE PUBLIC.

Pat on the back to the RCMP and agencies for helping keep whitehorse safe from drugs and those people known as dealers. Whitehorse is too small for idiots like them. Bottom line is.. if you sell in whitehorse, the RCMP will catch you. I love this city
