DAWSON CITY – The George Black ferry was taken out of service Monday night and will be pulled from the water today to address mechanical problems.

This information came this morning from Krysten Johnson, the manager of communications for the Department of Highways and Public Works.

A Facebook post on Monday evening – the final day of the long weekend – said, “A full inspection will occur tomorrow to determine how long it will remain out of operation.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have it back in the water as soon as possible.”

This morning, Johnson told the Star, “We have moved to a shuttle service to accommodate local foot traffic. Passengers should be prepared for crossing delays for at least the next day.”

She could not confirm the rumour that the issue is either the drive shaft or a propeller, but did say, “we have all the parts we need to make repairs.”

The shuttle, which can carry about eight people per trip, is being offered by Fishwheel Charters.

Wilf Carter - well of course you worked on a ferry. There doesn't seem to be any field of work that you haven't tried . I'm not sure how coming from Nova Scotia matters - I come from Ottawa but don't have any unique knowledge about the Prime Minister - but I'm starting to wonder about your careers. Perhaps you are very, very old, or maybe you just couldn't hold down any job for very long.

Umm BnR...ya know exactly why, called figurehead.
We out here know the elites are not turning wrenches, not even painting crosswalks. However, often the party in power make decisions that trickle down. Example, our new liberal mayor does not run a pavement shredder.
But she knows who should be, her administration hired said ghost pavement crew...on two mile in case I lost ya.

So yes it often is legitimate to toss criticism to the figurehead.
Kinda like y’all with epic Trump derangement syndrome, everything orange man bad.
It is funny to watch post the clear engineered power grab, folks doing serious mental gymnastics, frothing like rabid animals with all things right of centre, and acting all passive aggressive claiming folks are being literal in their thoughts on matters.
You are crafty enough to spew your chronic liberal propaganda, you are also crafty enough to get the point made via...the figurehead.

We have folks in power at all levels obsessed with much that DOES NOT REALLY MATTER, eco warriors, the SJW Crusades, near daily cheque writing and gifting state assets (your stuff) to whomever.

So when ya drive up two mile, try to take a ferry, dodge crackheads in traffic downtown, buy near anything especially food...I could drone on a while BnR...but?
Emperor Blackface and its SS, their cozy cuddle fest with the National Destruction Party are, have, and will continue to make decisions to aid themselves not our infrastructure proper or in actual public safety.

Don’t worry, the Orange Man will be back soon and y’all can start the trance, warm up the chants but remember...just a figurehead head that Orange Man Bad.
To defend liberal politics after the last few years of epic epic gaslighting?
Redefines a new level of cognitive dissonance.
Even though you may never have drank a Kool Aid beverage, you certainly chug the cherry red flavour like at a Jim Jones love in.
...a different cult, same sheep.

I’m constantly amazed how many Yukoners think our elected officials actually physically provide the day to day services of the Yukon government.
It’s a motor vessel that sees 24 hour service all summer. Mechanical things can and do break down all the time. Graders need hydraulic work, Dump trucks need engine work.
Sandy doesn’t do the maintenance on YG vehicles and equipment.
Neither did Darryl Pasloski, or Dennis Fentie etc. And strangely enough, neither will Currie if/when he’s elected.
The good people at HPW will sort this out and get her back in the water soon enough.
Kudos to the YG employees who keep our infrastructure operational, it’s too easy to take you for granted.

I worked on a Ferry. Did you and Sandy know that because he's from same area? I am from in NS. He should make sure there is a back up plan which is what? Politico so you are great liberal!

Was it not a decade or 2 ago that there was discussion on placing a bridge in DC?

@Wilf Carter Since Sandy isn't a mechanic I doubt he has ever worked on the ferry! But with your great experience maybe you could go up and offer your great expertise on the problem!
