A mature beaver appears to have been bludgeoned to death Thursday on the Millennium Trail.
The beaver’s carcass was found about 100 metres downstream from the fish hatchery, on the Riverdale side of the trail, near the big beaver lodge.
Conservation officers received a report from a member of the public at about 4 p.m. Thursday.
The preliminary investigation indicates the beaver was likely feeding in the area before someone hit it on the head several times, possibly with a log.
Environment Yukon conservation officers are requesting the public’s assistance for more information about the incident.
Members of the public are also asked to be mindful when on the Millennium Trail, given Thursday’s violent event.
They are asked to report unusual observations or human/wildlife conflict to the TIPP line (1-800-661-0525 or www.env.gov.yk.ca/tipp).
It’s an offence under the Yukon Wildlife Act to kill a beaver without a permit.
A necropsy on the beaver will be conducted next week.

Fredia: I have a problem with people telling me what I can read or what I can't read..what to think..and I have a problem with personal attack on the forums. "encourages his nonsense"? well, it's his nonsense and you don't have to read it.. but you don't get to pass judgement on another poster because you don't agree with him. Lots of bullies in the forums these days.. This is about the killing of a helpless animal in a cruel way. You are trying to make it about one poster.

Josey Wales is on a rampage against Gladue about a dead beaver. What happened to the beaver is cruel. What happened to First Nations in Canada was genocide. As long as people are in denial there is no hope for real reconciliation.

re: early..I was not for a second implying I know anything about a dead beaver or who beat it. I was commenting on a general state our village is in as per June's comment.
re:anger management, nice tactic..but fails on me. The points I refer to often should suggest many (not all) folks need some reality management.
Bumped into the dog handler in the bush last night, looking for another robbery suspect...could be anyone...we will see.
One need not agree or even like what I have to say, but if you choose to suggest my points are not without some (clearly not to all) validity then perhaps you are part of the problem?
Folks I understand many loathe near all I have to say, great they can do that.
I've been living amongst many flat earth folk a long time now and if one doubts the orb like factoid in a one dimension land? They too can choose to do so.

Beavers are amazing. The size of trees they fall and drag is simply incredible. It takes a special type of loser to beat one over the head with the one thing it uses for survival.

I think the problems are often related to the parents, television and video games and then a social and police and court system that does not deal with people who have problems.
There is agressive driving in this town which is not addressed. There are alcohol and drug issues and many dysfunctional people here. It's no wonder these people keep on returning to drive down our society, they are never dealt with.

I understand how you feel June. I have been here for 60 yes and am appalled by the way my small town has evolved. Disgusting drug dealers never getting a sentence that will deter them. Bleeding heart judges releasing pedophile's back into the communities. This town has evolved into a small version of Winnipeg (sans hells angels). But they do control the drug trade here from Surrey. Police response time is pitiful as are their PC actions with their arrests. It took over a year to shut down the notorious 802 crack house. I was tempted to firebomb it myself. Anyway enough said. Whitehorse is a microcosm of our imploding country along with the US.

This is the Whitehorse of today... animal killers, people killers, disregard for others, thieves, drug dealers..are there just a lot of psychopaths here? Or is it because we are small and justice isn't an active ingredient in our society that they are more noticeable when they crawl out from under their rock.
Events like this make me sick. We'll never get these guys..but I hope God does.
