Events, canvassing dominate candidates’ agendas

With the federal election 28 days away, the Yukon’s five candidates have embarked on another busy week of campaigning.

With the federal election 28 days away, the Yukon’s five candidates have embarked on another busy week of campaigning.

Green Party hopeful Lenore Morris will meet with the Little Salmon-Carmacks First Nation chief and council at 5 p.m. today.

She will attend the Yukon Federation of Labour forum at Yukon College from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

From noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Morris will attend the National Association of Federal Retirees luncheon at the Westmark Hotel.

Morris will take part in a forum focused on issues affecting non-profit organizations from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the MacBride Museum.

On Friday, Morris will join the global climate strike at city hall from 12 to 1 p.m. and attend the Party for the Peel at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre (KDCC) in the afternoon.

Morris and her team will be street waving on Friday evening.

On Saturday, she tentatively plans to attend Culture Days and will take part in an immigration and multiculturalism debate from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Yukon Transportation Museum.

On Sunday, Morris will attend a Green salon at a private residence. She and her team will spend the rest of the week canvassing Whitehorse.

Incumbent Liberal Larry Bagnell will attend the labour federation forum on Tuesday, and Thursday’s forum on non-profit organizations. He will also be at Saturday’s immigration and multiculturalism debate.

Bagnell is canvassing in Mayo and Keno City today and will be in Pelly Crossing on Tuesday morning. He will spend the remaining weekdays canvassing in Whitehorse.

NDP candidate Justin Lemphers will attend this evening’s city council meeting in support of the motion to declare a climate emergency.

On Tuesday, Lemphers will attend the screening of the documentary nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up, followed by conversation with Jade Tootoosis, an advocate and sister to the late Colten Boushie. That event is set for Yukon College from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

On Tuesday evening, Lemphers will attend the labour federation forum.

The next day will see him at the Massey Lecture by Sally Armstrong on gender equality as key to our survival.

On Thursday, Lemphers will participate in the forum on issues affecting non-profit organizations.

Eary Friday morning, he will attend the annual United Way breakfast, a community meeting on Yukon housing at the KDCC followed by the Party for the Peel.

On Saturday, Lemphers will take part in the immigration and multiculturalism debate.

He will spend the rest of this week canvassing in Whitehorse.

Conservative candidate Jonas Smith plans to volunteer at the United Way breakfast.

On Saturday, Smith will participate in the immigration and multiculturalism debate, and spend the remainder of the week canvassing.

Joseph Zelezny, the People’s Party of Canada candidate, is spending today distributing campaign signs. He will be at Tuesday’s labour forum, and at Wednesday’s National Association of Federal Retirees luncheon.

Zelezny will host a live YouTube Q&A at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The link will be posted to his campaign website.

Zelezny will participate in the forum on issues affecting non-profit organizations on Thursday.

On Friday, Zelezny will host Maxime Bernier, the leader of the People’s Party of Canada, in Whitehorse and attend a ticketed luncheon with the Yukon Chamber of Commerce at the Coast High Country Inn.

On Saturday evening, Zelezny will take part in the immigration and multiculturalism debate.
