A 65-year-old Whitehorse driver has died not long after becoming involved in a collision Monday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Whitehorse RCMP were called to a two-vehicle collision at Second Avenue and Strickland Street.

At the time, officers were told neither of the two male drivers was hurt.

"It came into us as a non-injury call,” Const. Christine Grant said today. "It's the kind of collision we deal with often.”

As a police officer was conducting his investigation, he noticed the man who had been driving a Ford truck in physical distress.

The officer called for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and began performing chest compressions on the man.

EMS attended and he was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His name is not yet being released pending notification of his next of kin.

An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene and a portion of Strickland Street and one lane of Second Avenue was closed to traffic for a short time Monday.

The Yukon coroner's office is also involved. The man's cause of death has not been determined, chief coroner Kirsten Macdonald said today.

Police are now looking for witnesses to the initial crash to help with the investigation.
