Thanks to information provided by the public, a Whitehorse resident has been charged related to a hit-and-run that took place last January.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, the RCMP attended a collision near the intersection of Second Avenue and Lowe Street.
According to witnesses, a vehicle was stopped at the red light on Lowe Street – and was struck from behind by the suspect vehicle.
That vehicle was then reported to have gone north on Second Avenue without stopping after the collision.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle that was hit had non-life-threatening injuries in addition to significant damage to their vehicle.
Last February, police seized the vehicle believed to be involved in the collision. A search warrant was executed to collect evidence related to the investigation.
Harrup Singh, 22, of Whitehorse, had a first court appearance on June 8, police said today.
He has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences of the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and failing to stop after a collision causing bodily harm.
“Tips and information from the public assisted us in advancing this investigation,” said Cpl. Tim Anderson, the watch commander at Whitehorse RCMP detachment.
“Thank you to those who reached out to provide details.”
Anyone who wants to remain anonymous while providing further details about the collision or other police investigations is encouraged to reach out to Crime Stoppers via phone at 867-667-6715 or at http://www.crimestoppersyukon.ca

Good to see the result of the investigation. Seeing as how this is 5 months after the incident I hope the RCMP respected Mr. Singh's charter rights during the investigation.
To the commenters below.
This has nothing to do with immigration. It's possible Harrup immigrated here recently but also possible he has lived here his life. Dave's sarcastic remark notwithstanding, I know plenty of people with "foreign" sounding names that have been born here. You are unfairly racially stereotyping here.
@Mitch, what does this have to do political affiliation? It's fine to have political beliefs but why shoehorn them into every single comment? But I will say I agree with you on being unsure of Canada's future. We live in an extremely polarized time with no visible improvement coming on the horizon. The world is being framed as a political left vs political right when in reality the conflict is a result of unchecked capitalism and it's the extremely wealthy with their thumb on everyone else.

@ Dave - Are you suggesting that driving away from an automotive crime scene is legal in India? Or are you being closet racist and failing to camouflage it as sarcasm and wit? Something, something, get a life, use your brain...Yawn, Liberal mother hen says what? Double standard what now?
Point being, how about you stick to your passions and I will stick to mine? For the record, I don't think you are racist, I think you are frustrated with an untenable political environment and I think every race in Canada can agree on that, which means I agree with you. Reason will prevail in time.
I am sorry I called you a Liberal, I would not wish such a fate on my worst enemy, and I don't have enemies ( that I am aware of). I do not like this country right now, but that doesn't mean I dislike anyone in it specifically. People get misguided, it happens. Let me be the first to admit, when it comes to Canada, I am a little unsure where we go and what we do from here. Please, for the love of Christ, let someone else follow me in that admission, so we can move forward.
Try to have a good Canada Day Dave. I will too.

Clearly this person judging by his name was born and raised in Canada, he should know better.

Imagine if he moved here and a Canadian hit and run him, this would be an entirely different story - with comments posted actually published.

Our colourful new PR card seeker population. No need to even prove your looking for Canadians to fill jobs any more here. Just cram them into this tiny town. Legit. Not that they care for Canadians, Canada or our laws (our government doesn't either). If you knew what they said about most of us in their own language you might be a bit worried. My grandfather had a thick Danish accent till the day he passed, and was one of the first accredited mechanical engineers in the Yukon. I know what immigration for the sake of prosperity is and looks like. This is not that, mostly far from it.
