Yukoners should not live in fear of COVID-19, say Premier Sandy Silver and Dr. Brendan Hanley, the Yukon’s chief medical officer of health.
Yukoners should not live in fear of COVID-19, say Premier Sandy Silver and Dr. Brendan Hanley, the Yukon’s chief medical officer of health.
They should respect the virus for what it is, and must continue to be vigilant in actions to protect themselves and others, they said Wednesday during the regular weekly update on the pandemic.
“Practising the safe six remains incredibly important,” Silver said before reminding Yukoners of the safe six steps, which include physical distancing and regular hand washing.
“Follow gathering guidelines, including limiting indoor social gatherings to 10 people if they are not in your bubble,” he said. “This is especially important as we look towards Thanksgiving this weekend.”
Both Silver and Hanley encouraged Yukoners to enjoy the long weekend with family and friends but to stay vigilant.
“We all need to remember that the actions we take are not just to protect ourselves, they are to protect everyone in our community,” the premier said.
“We all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe and healthy, and we all need to remain vigilant.”
He said the Yukon is filled with dedicated individuals, businesses and organizations that have risen to the challenges faced over the last six months dealing with the pandemic.
“The kindness, compassion, and care we have seen across our territory continues to inspire me, and is a constant reminder of why this is such a great place to live,” said Silver.
Hanley said indoor gatherings are much more susceptible to the spread of the virus, with windows closed and less ventilation.
There are other things that can be done during the Thanksgiving dinner to strengthen measures of protection other than maintaining physical distancing at the dinner table, Hanley pointed out.
He said only one person should be carving the turkey. There should only be one person responsible for serving, he said.
Hanley said there should be no sharing of cutlery or glassware, and no sharing of things like salt and pepper shakers.
“I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to all Yukoners for their collective efforts to keep our territory safe and strong,” the premier said.
The count of positive cases in the Yukon remains at 15, as it has for several months now. All have recovered.

Was it Woodcutter or Sheepchaser that used to post the feverish rants about how deadly C19 was? Whoever it was, care to give us an update as to the accuracy of those posts?

Protect the vulnerable and use basic distancing practices but let the economy get going before we get caught in a stagnant pit.
Stimulate a future for young people rather than a bubble of recession and hopelessness.
Create balance rather than fear and overreaction.

@Woodcutter. I saw Hanley grocery shopping at Save-On without a mask. What does that tell you?

A Centers for Disease Control report released in September shows that masks and face coverings are not effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19, even for those people who consistently wear them.
The study also demonstrates that under 4 percent of the case-patients became sick with the virus even though they “never” wore a mask or face covering.
A study conducted in the United States in July found that when they compared 154 “case-patients,” who tested positive for COVID-19, to a control group of 160 participants from the same health care facility who were symptomatic but tested negative, over 70 percent of the case-patients were contaminated with the virus and fell ill despite “always” wearing a mask.
“In the 14 days before illness onset, 71% of case-patients and 74% of control participants reported always using cloth face coverings or other mask types when in public,” the report stated.
In addition, over 14 percent of the case-patients said they “often” wore a face covering and were still infected with the virus.

Was in the grocery store on Monday, it was refreshing to see the vast majority of folks had masks. Good to see that for the majority of the folks in Whitehorse it's a public health issue. However from the same gaggle of right wing nutz is still a politicized issue, except for one and that leaves me pleasantly surprised.

So some person or persons went to BC and got CV19 and now in our hospital. So what do you think about that. Anyone who leaves Yukon should be tested when returning. Just a standard heath precaution for all of us.

..."Yukoners should not live in fear of COVID-19, say Premier Sandy Silver and Dr. Brendan Hanley, the Yukon’s chief medical officer of health."
To that I could not agree more.
Add if I may this...Yukoners should comprehend the reality of yes...fearing your government however.
For a final related thought...our government(s) would be better if they feared us, the citizens that fund the subjugation fetishists as of late.
Okay like a political blowhole...I lied...more on this topic!
Civic government as ours in Whitehorse, should never, never be underestimated in their ability to add the insanity.
Wherever you find a run down, infested with junkies and pariah's city?
You will also find a "progressive" PC Crusader liberal ideolog echo chamber, city X calls their city hall.
...yeah fear not germs, just those that rule you...
A part time drama teacher rules us nationally, another teacher rules us here via a clearly liberal doctor...hmmm?
all these teachers and their unions infecting our society with lunacy off the charts, yet so much stupid is omnipresent?
"HOW DARE YOU!" spoiled wee brat and victim of child abuse Greta T. ..or
"Hey teachers, LEAVE our kids alone! All in all, just another brick in the wall."

Wow Juniper! You are correct. WTF! WTF! WTF!
This is way too far! I think I understand your irony but, just to be clear, this is not funny at all. The people responsible for this should lose their jobs! Now!

Get out of my damned bedroom.. Hanley has wisely not gone there, but Ontario has.

Really? wear a mask, latex gloves, no kissing and limit touching for sex?
They have gone insane..

This is so stupid it's funny, be sure to read the comments from people, and the sysops responses. Someone in the Ottawa health dept has a sense of humor. They call it.. "the sex" ..if you are thinking about having "the sex" don't do it if you are sick. Really? People have to be told that?
