Dixon easily prevails in leadership review
Once again, members of the Yukon Party have overwhelmingly endorsed Currie Dixon as their leader.
Once again, members of the Yukon Party have overwhelmingly endorsed Currie Dixon as their leader.
The vote of confidence occurred last Saturday, when 70 Yukon Party members from across the territory gathered in Whitehorse for their 2023 annual general meeting.
The party does not release the vote margin from the mandatory annual leadership review. The Yukon Party is the only territorial party that requires a leadership review each year
Dixon delivered his annual update and gave members a wrap-up of the spring sitting of the legislative assembly, the party said in a news release.
He highlighted some key issues the party will push going forward.
Those include a vision for reliable and affordable energy, addressing the rising cost of basic necessities like groceries, delivering more housing opportunities for Yukoners, and ensuring the government is a partner to the success of business and Yukoners, not an obstacle.
Party members also elected a new executive, with Melanie Brais continuing in her role as party president for a fourth year with the “wholehearted support “of members
The grassroots membership passed two motions that affirm support for rural Yukon and the private sector.
“The motions show members’ support for funding programs around rural roads and resource access roads, as well as to advocate for a fast, reliable Internet connection to Whitehorse industrial areas and rural homes,” the party said.
Brais added, “As indicated by the turnout, and passing of two motions, all members are behind the important work of our leader and MLAs to listen and bring forward the issues of all Yukoners to the government.”
