The Yukon government’s websites were under attack this morning from an unknown source.

According to a Facebook post issued by the government late this morning, “at midnight on September 14 our public website Yukon.ca experienced a cyber attack that shut down the website and other public facing Yukon government websites.”

The statement added, “The type of attack we are experiencing sends abnormally high levels of traffic to our network to overwhelm our systems, but these types of attacks do not try and access information.”

While the attack is tying up the government websites and phone lines, it apparently isn’t presenting any danger to data security.

“We currently do not have an estimated time for when the websites will be functional,” the statement said.

“At this point, we have not identified any threat to private citizen data, government systems, or unauthorized access to government files.”

Another update was expected at 4 p.m. today.
