A young woman has been killed and two people injured after a crash near Pelly Crossing last week.

Last Wednesday night, a man reported the single-vehicle collision to Pelly Crossing RCMP, the police said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

An older-model GMC truck from the Northwest Territories had crashed approximately 23 kilometres north of the community.

A 23-year old woman was found dead outside the vehicle. Police did not release her name.

A 33-year-old man driving the truck and a two-year-old passenger sustained injuries from the accident. They were transported via air ambulance to Whitehorse General Hospital for treatment.

There was also significant damage to the truck.

An RCMP collision analyst who attended the scene determined through an initial investigation that the truck had been travelling south on the North Klondike Highway toward Whitehorse when it left the road and rolled into the ditch.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Pelly Crossing RCMP, Yukon Emergency Medical Services personnel and two community nurses also attended the scene of the crash.
