Dr. Brendan Hanley

COVID takes a life

Today, the Yukon’s chief medical health officer, Dr. Brendan Hanley, reported the death of another Yukoner from COVID-19.

By Whitehorse Star on July 12, 2021

Today, the Yukon’s chief medical health officer, Dr. Brendan Hanley, reported the death of another Yukoner from COVID-19.

There had been five reported Yukon deaths since November 2020.

Hanley also reported six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 between noon last Thursday and noon Friday. That brought the active case count to 116 with reported recoveries.

The Yukon’s total case count since March 22, 2020 is 461; with 391 cases since June 1, including out of territory residents diagnosed in the Yukon and probable cases. One case previously identified as positive has been determined negative.

As of early this afternoon, no updated case count from the weekend was available.

For the new cases since noon Thursday, six involved Yukoners, with locations to be confirmed.

Two hundred seventy-two individuals have recovered since June 1.

The current guidelines for daycares remain in place until further notice. These include limiting attendance and masking.

The good Dr. has been remiss in the following areas and should recommend changes for future CMO situations.
1. He can't speak French fluently enough for his updates.
2. The border controls have been close to non existent at times and so a failure.
3. The safe six didn't even have mask wearing included for the longest time and despite being the most effective form of prevention spread was an afterthought add-on by these authorities.
4. Lack of information on cases where that info could be provided without violating anyone's rights.
That's four strikes Dr. Hanley and there is no such game.

The circumstances and details of the deaths are entirely relevant, and pretending they're not is to be wilfully ignorant.
To want a full picture of current events is not, in any way, anti-vax, conspiratorial, or whatever other slander that people want to use to wave away questions and concerns. The people hiding this information are being clearly undemocratic.

We already *know* not all of the deaths attributed to COVID in Yukon have been primarily caused by COVID. Now they are withholding any information about deaths and hospitalizations. This information can help the public make decisions about risk assessment.

What we can see all around us now are the truly misinformed - the ones sanitizing everything in their office (long ago shown that surface transmission of COVID is extremely rare), too scared to come to work, fully vaccinated and still avoiding any gatherings (despite the vaccine clearly being immensely effective).

I feel bad for them, as they have been controlled by fear, and our slow and controlling government perpetuates this. The worst part is the people in charge are not exactly news mongers themselves and are well behind global COVID research developments.

To those that insist that they must know explicit details or parse it word for word, please put yourself in the shoes of relatives of those that have passed away and maybe then you will show that you actually have a heart!

Well here we are again...everyone seems to argue that details of this death is none of our business due to privacy - really...I mean really....well why is it peoples business about any ones private life... why do people ask random people if they took vaxx... that's ok - invade peoples charter protected rights on vaxx status but this reported death is private matter... um no, the detail matter a lot... and to those who think we don't care ABOUT THE OLD PERSON WITH UNDERLYING CONDITIONS, PLEASE!. People want the truth not covid nonsense to keep us under emergency act control, right.... wake up.

What could be done differently asked “entitled much”. There’s a clear solution spelled out by medical experts over the world in the Great Barrington Declaration, it’s called ‘focused protection’. Which is that vulnerable people are provided with support for self-isolation, while the rest of the population continues to produce goods and services that sustain us all and keep us healthy.
These medical experts caution that locking down entire populations will cause more harm than the virus itself. There also are therapeutics that have been found to be efficacious for treating covid in the past year. Why aren't these mentioned by our public health officials.

We need them to clarify with us that the deaths and severe covid cases involved vulnerable individuals, e.i. the frail elderly, Vitamin D deficiency, people with diabetes, high blood pressure. This is important information for people to use in making decisions about their health and lifestyle. No one but you claimed that this type of info is 'fearmongering'. We don't need to be infantilized with the 'father knows best' attitude of do what you're told and don't ask questions.

To “entitled much”, we’re under restrictions for over a year which ruined several local businesses and sent many into a downward spiral of mental illness, domestic abuse, overdoses, and pressured to take a risky experimental jab, all because of claims of a deadly pandemic. But when we found out that the Yukon’s first 3 “covid” deaths were in fact elderly people who died of pre-existing conditions there was an outcry about the misrepresentation. We’ve noticed that since then they’ve not given us any detail at all about the 3 additional so-called ‘covid’ deaths. This ongoing secrecy will only increase distrust and decrease public cooperation.

By the way, I still don’t know the identity of any of these deceased. It’s definitely possible to provide relevant details about their conditions without revealing their identity. Governments all over do that all the time with statistical reports made publicly available.

@bonanzajoe and @Pierre:

Please clarify what specifically having this information would do for you? How might knowing someone’s age, gender, pre-existing health conditions, etc. change your perspective and/or make you do something you are not already doing (or not doing)? I am just curious how knowing possible identifying information about individual deaths of our community members (as opposed to aggregately reported) would impact you or your decision making, specifically.

Also, I find it amusing that folks demand information then say health officials and government are fear mongering when they provide details. And when they don’t they’re then criticized for withholding information and accused of being part of some big secret conspiracy attempt to control people. Honestly folks, which way do you want it? And more, what would YOU do differently if you were in their position that would make all of this better for the majority?

We're under restrictions & mask mandates on the basis of these so-called 'covid deaths'. So, they better tell us exactly how and of what these people died. Just like general statistics published every year, they can surely tell us the details without identifying these people. We need to know:
- age
- pre-existing conditions,
- if they had already received the covid vax, and was it one or two shots
- the CT level of the CPR test that was used to label them as 'covid positive'
- were they 'intubated' on a ventilator as their treatment for covid

The lack of such details in media reports does result in the public’s skepticism about the official ‘covid pandemic' narrative. I for one have stopped believing any of it, because there is too much that simply doesn't add up, and this sketchy claim of 'covid death' is just one more example of it.

Hey Doug....to answer your question, no I do not remember that time you write of.
I was a different kid, I paid attention early...still no.
Been my experience that most knowingly or not are just regurgitating propaganda.
Our “ state broadcaster “ has always been the worst, the last ten years?
So Doug, no I do not remember such a time.
Been spinning on this orb for near six decades, still no!

Entitled much: If it's none of our business, why is the doc giving out this sparse information. If it's none of our business, then let it stay his. I don't know who you are, but the rest of us would like to be informed of all the details. Other than that let the Doc keep it to himself and stop getting everybody alarmed and panicked. Finally, maybe you don't want details but we do. And then, maybe you are in the inner circle getting the details.

@entitled....nobody is asking for names, DNA or the like, people are just trying to get a perspective of the truth. Withholding information that affects all of us IS our business. If you disagree then ask yourself this: why is DR. Hanley still giving updates or employed for that matter?

Lack of information, is worse than misinformation.
Lack of information due to privacy concerns (according to government),
But at the same time inform on your neighbour or anyone if you think they are violating Covid restrictions.

40k people + 80% vaccine rate + 1% fatality rate = 80 dead people. We're at 6/461, a 1.3% fatality rate.

Some of you are splitting hairs over language and being mean spirited. You are implying that if someone is older or has underlying health issues their death is inevitable so having Covid has no bearing on their death. You miss the point that Covid probably shortened their life and without it the person may have lived longer.

To you people commenting who are demanding information regarding gender, age, medical history. You do realize this is 100% NONE of your business and you actually have ZERO right to be informed? Consider the equivalent: your family member has died from a communicable disease. And someone wants to know all about it. Demands to in fact. And demands that all of that be made public. Now how appropriate is that request?

I get irritated with media, local media mainly, one reports the death with covid 19 and the other reports it as death from covid 19. So what is it? Remember when the news used to be accurate?

Death of a Yukoner? What’s the age? Underlying health issues? Travelled outside? What the heck Henley provide some details for crying out loud... no wonder people are apprehensive to get a shot or the like due the mixed messaging and deliberate withholding of pertinent information.

Provide information on ALL "Covid deaths" and hospitalizations, specifically Age, Underlying Medical Conditions, and Vaccination Status, ie, none, partial, or full.

Getting tired of the Doc not giving us more news. How old was this person? What community was he/she from? What other underlying illness did he/she suffer from. And more. Getting tired of his secrecy. And I think most people are too. If I was the Chief Editor of the WS or YN, I just would not print any of his information. Let him circulate it by carrier pigeon. Just another way of keeping the people under the Liberal dictator rule. I just hope voters remember this in the next election.
