COVID-19 outbreak starting to diminish, latest data show

The Yukon’s COVID-19 outbreak definitely appears to be subsiding.

By Whitehorse Star on July 16, 2021

The Yukon’s COVID-19 outbreak definitely appears to be subsiding.

The Yukon’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Brendan Hanley, reported seven new confirmed cases of COVID-19 between noon Wednesday and noon Thursday.

With recoveries, this brings the active case count to 78.

The total number of confirmed Yukon cases since March 22, 2020 is 497 with 427 cases since June 1.

Six of the new cases are in Whitehorse. One in a rural community

Since June 1st, 345 individuals have recovered and there have been four deaths.

There have been a total of six deaths since November 2020.

The Kwanlin Dun First Nation is reporting on its Facebook page that 14 KDFN citizens currently have active cases of COVID-19, with one currently in Whitehorse General Hospital.

Through the course of this outbreak, a total of 46 KDFN citizens have had COVID-19.

“With the daycare outbreak now under control and most cases recovered, the CMOH is advising that as of Monday, July 19, daycares and day homes can welcome back all children and not just those of essential and critical workers,” the government said in a statement Wednesday.

Child care workers are still required to wear a mask.

In addition, based on risk and where risk has been identified, sizes for organized gatherings may return to the May 25 levels of 200 indoors and 200 outdoors, provided physical distancing is maintained and masks are worn indoors.

Sizes for informal social gatherings may return to limits of 20 indoors and 50 outdoors if everyone is vaccinated. At events where individuals are unvaccinated, Hanley is still recommending that participants “stick to six.”

He’s advising people to assume that COVID-19 is widespread, and act accordingly. Anyone experiencing any of the symptoms, even mild, should get tested.

“Testing for COVID-19 infection is more important than ever,” the government said.

“People who are vaccinated may also rarely acquire COVID-19 and should seek testing if symptoms develop.

“Testing turn-around times remain very quick, 24 hours in the previous week, and negative results can now be accessed online for faster access to results.”

Anyone experiencing symptoms in Whitehorse should call the COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre at 393-3083 or book online to arrange for testing.

Drive-up testing is available at the centre from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily at 49A Waterfront Place.

People in communities should contact their rural community health centre to arrange for testing.

OK. Question. How do they determine if someone is still sick with COVID or not? Do they just assume after 2 weeks one is "recovered" unless they end up in the hospital?

@ Wes..how do you think the free vaccines actually cost? It’s billions. Those of us who choose healthy lifestyles, natural immunity, and take a realistic approach to this scamdemic are actually responsible people. Vaccines should be for elderly and those with compromised health. On the other hand, those of us responsible citizens are actually paying taxes for your free ride.

The same people who are refusing to get vaccinated, refusing to follow any sort of recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus are the same ones who want a magic pill to lose weight, want a pill to fix them when they get Diabetes due to poor lifestyle choices. They take no responsibility for their actions, but want the government their to fix them up. And they sure don’t want to pay taxes.
Well, you’re welcome, the responsible citizens will take care of you, as usual.

To the other person signing in as Juniper: Canada certainly IS doing late term abortions.. Google Abortion after 38 weeks, https://nationalpost.com/opinion/letters/todays-letters-late-trimester-abortions-are-not-happening-in-canada-without-a-reason This is one of the better explanations. But "without reason" is open to opinion. You can also get an abortion in Canada if you wanted a blue eyed baby but the DNA says brown.

Just like other places we HAVE had a lockdown. Ask anyone who was ticketed by the Covid cops. I also ignored the lockdown orders, but I didn't get stopped or charged or ticketed. I was breaking the law every day. I am free because i break the law. Wouldn't it be nice to be free inside the law?

To DL: I totally agree with your comment to the other Juniper. Good post.
To Dougie: LOLOL.. I was pretty ticked the day I wrote 'SOBs..let us go'. But, my feelings have not changed. As long as the Emergency Measures is in effect, I am breaking the law.

Even those who disagree with me, or think they can tell me what to do.. "you need to get outside more and step away from these discussion boards, it'll do wonders for your precious health." I am still glad you posted. The Star editors kindly edit some of my posts, I have a bad temper.

As COVID is only a supercharged cold virus, I would worry more about how we all react to a real five star destructive catastrophe.

In response to some comments below, the notion of remaining virus free at all costs is completely unrealistic. At any rate, we’ve seen that the covid injection doesn’t necessarily prevent covid infection, it just suppresses the symptoms.

The reality is that we live in a world awash with germs and viruses, and our immune system deals with that every day. To maintain good health means building up one’s immune system with healthy lifestyle.

Some new viruses might be trickier for some vulnerable people to deal with. About covid, by now we should all know that those with diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and the frail elderly, have much higher risks of severe illness from a covid infection. Fortunately, over the past year highly successful treatments for covid have been developed by medical researchers. These therapeutics have been suppressed by big pharma intent on profiting from vaccine sales, so it’s important to get your information from credible independent sources. Look up “Frontline Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance”, a group of USA doctors who have successfully treated covid with Ivermectin.

Ok, no more debate from me on Jul 21, 2021 at 7:42 am

When someone compares our situation to the SS, and someone else goes on about the Barrington Declaration and animal parasite medication as covid treatments,... well that's a clue that there can be no rational discussion or debate.

In response to ‘Juniper’, we certainly had lockdowns here in the Yukon. Schools were closed for months on end, children forced to wear masks in schools, employees forced to wear masks, all of it very damaging to our health and society, and destroyed several local businesses. We're still under Emergency restrictions. I don't know where you live or where you shop, but I've had to drastically modify my activities due to these stupid restrictions, which by the way only temporarily delay the transmission of the covid virus which is now endemic worldwide.

Unless you want to live in bubble wrap for the rest of your life, we need to end all restrictions now. Closing up for extended periods isn't sustainable. Things that work: support the vulnerable ones who wish to self isolate until herd immunity has been reached. Look up the Great Barrington Declaration, signed by renowned medical experts the world over. And look up Frontline Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance for a list of the numerous studies showing that Ivermectin + Vitamin D are efficacious therapeutics for treating covid.

We never hear this from our chief medical dictator, but the best way to maintain health is good nutrition with lots of fresh veggies and fruits, daily walks in sunshine and fresh air, and positive attitude. Remember, the great majority of people with a covid infection only have mild symptoms, and are immune to covid after recovery. And there are efficacious therapeutics for the severe cases.

Juniper, no one WANTS lockdown on Jul 20, 2021 at 6:50 am

Unlike so many other places, we've never had a true lockdown here in the Yukon. Nobody likes masks, or restrictions on travel or social gatherings. I don't know what freedoms you feel have been taken away from you, but compared to the rest of the world, I think we've been very fortunate.

The jury is still out on the figures you provided about Israel and re-infection ..... but Arutz Sheva (aka Israel National News) is basically the Fox News of Israel. It may be correct, but it's worth a bit of skepticism when reading any article.

yes, everyone will be looked after on Jul 19, 2021 at 4:00 pm

Wes' comment wasn't elegantly put, but he does kinda have a point. Except for HIV, everything he mentioned harms only the person engaging in them. But everyone who gets infected with covid will be well-looked after at no cost by our medical/health system. Most will recover after a while - although they may have lingering symptoms for months. And some will be very ill, requiring ventilators, medevac and a long awful recovery. But yeah, they'll all be looked after by an excellent medical system by staff who must be purely sick of all this by now.

I just don't understand why so many people actually WANT lockdown? Can they not trust themselves to be responsible for their income? health? family?

Do they understand why I want to be free to make my own choices?

Nearly 40% of new COVID patients were vaccinated - compared to just 1% who had been infected previously.
Coronavirus patients who recovered from the virus were far less likely to become infected during the latest wave of the pandemic than people who were vaccinated against COVID, according to numbers presented to the Israeli Health Ministry.
Health Ministry data on the wave of COVID outbreaks which began this May show that Israelis with immunity from natural infection were far less likely to become infected again in comparison to Israelis who only had immunity via vaccination.

So.. Covid.. I do not like the SS type of pressure being put on people to vaccinate. The Law says you can do what you want with your body. Even, a schizophrenic doesn't have to take his medicine legally. Women are pushing for a late term, 9 months baby, terminated. So, why is everyone on the horn about people that choose not to vaccinate? A person falls off his dirt bike and breaks his legs? His choice to race..he'll have to pay for it?

As usual, I speak only for myself. But, I think, we aren't..but we are supposed to be free. That means, do what ever you need to do to be happy. Should events not transpire the way you want them too, society will help you, because that's what we do. You don't get jabbed? Be safe! Your choice. The government has a string of punishments for you, to prevent you from making decisions regarding your body. So. Sue them. Knock them out of the Captains' chair and sail your ship however you want to.

Hey @wes, funny cause that's the logic I think of when you smoke a pack a day, or drink a bottle a day.. but nope, they get same access to the system.. or how about when you don't choose to eat organic foods and continue to eat known carcinogenic chemicals.. right, silence .. just as I suspected..

You start that, and then all the smokers, alcoholic’s, drug over doses, type 2 diabetics, overweight people can as well pay their own way. That’s your thought process?

@ Wes
After a lifetime of paying exorbitant Canadian taxes, staying healthy through exercise and diet, and thus barely using the system to which a large part of my taxes goes toward, my expectation is that should I get COVID that I will be fully cared for with top notch care. Afterall, I payed for a service with my taxes and I expect the service provider (in this case the Government) to deliver that service. If the Government refuses to care for me based on "vaccination status" then I expect all taxes I have paid to be refunded to me.

What are you talking about man? I personally hope you don't get Cancer after having been a smoker, ate fast food, become overweight and develop Diabetes, engage in unprotected sex and develop HIV.

That is the problem with this whole thing, it has been designed to turn people against one and other. Divide and conquer.
Please People be kind and not judgmental.

At this point, if you chose not to get vaccinated, you get Covid and require medical care, you should have to pay for that care.
Choices have consequences.

Will you at least publish this comment? on Jul 16, 2021 at 4:08 pm

I find it so strange that the numbers are going down after
a) so many people were vaccinated (obviously not this)
b) investigations into the origin of the virus + the efficacy of the vaccine have ramped up.

Prediction: "Okay, everything is back to normal, so let's not let the media see the hearings that are about to begin."
Well done guinea pigs, well done
