The city should invest in a statue of a giant white horse, Coun. Dave Stockdale suggested to city council Tuesday evening.

Following a presentation by the Yukon Quest International Association, which is looking to build a $400,000-plus, 18-metre bronze statue depicting a musher and dog team at the base of Main Street, Stockdale said he felt the city should also have a statue.

Stephen Reynolds, the Yukon Quest International Association's manager, said his organization would like to explore the idea of having a statue commemorating the Quest at the Whitehorse start/finish line in front of the historic White Pass rail station.

Stockdale said he felt the city should discuss a similar idea.

'The city should consider building a giant white horse,' Stockdale told his fellow council members. 'Hopefully, this will come up at budget time.'

Stockdale said he'd like to see his horse idea put on the agenda. A good location may be somewhere in the Yukon River, he added.
