City council voted Monday to approve the 2021 operating and maintenance budget of $88.2 million, representing an increase of 3.9 per cent or $3.4 million more than the 2020 annual operating budget.
Council also adopted the tax increase of .34 per cent for residential properties, the lowest since 2003.
The average homeowner will pay an additional $9 a year, or $2,544 annually, up from $2,535 for 2020.
The average commercial property will pay an additional $211 in taxes this year.
The budget includes the standard annual two per cent increase in fees for recreational and facility services.
The monthly charge for water and sewer services will remain at $85.85, though the utility fee for solid waste management will increase by 2.75 per cent.
There were no submissions from the public on the proposed 2021 operating and maintenance budget.
In early December, council approved its 2021 capital budget of $52.4 million, though $21.4 million still needs to be approved by external funding sources like the Yukon and federal governments.

Kate must be spinning. The libs have moved so far to the left it's making the NDP look like another liberal party. This also pushes Currie to the left. That will equate to three parties left of centre all making the ultimate promise to dole out money to who ever screams the loudest. What a pathetic lot we've become.

The Canada Game Center is sucking the City tax payers pockets dry. Users of facility has dropped dramatically and also revenue. How can City council justify keeping this open in a deep sea of red ink? Every business has taken a loss and it is about time to look at the financial picture of keeping the facility open. Tax payers can not afford to have The City of Whitehorse run a huge loss on this and still ask for a increase in taxes!

The Liberals are here to take all our money for socialist programs. Can't wait for the Yukon to be rid of them here.
