A Whitehorse woman found lying in the snow Tuesday morning was pronounced dead shortly after in hospital.

Karen Stutzman was 50 years old.

Yukon chief coroner Kirsten Macdonald said foul play is not suspected.

She would not speculate on Stutzman’s cause of death, but has ordered an autopsy, which will be conducted at Vancouver General Hospital by a forensic pathologist.

Results could come in weeks or months, she said.

Stutzman was found at about 7:15 a.m. in the Northland Park mobile home subdivision by a woman walking her dog.

The woman called police, who did CPR on Stutzman once they arrived at the scene.

Her temperature was very low, Macdonald said, and she did not have a pulse at that time.

Stutzman was pronounced dead at Whitehorse General Hospital at 9:10 a.m.

“Resuscitation efforts were called off,” Macdonald said.

She said Stutzman was lying in the driveway of a home that was not hers, nor that of anyone she knew. She was about 300 metres from her own residence.

Macdonald will investigate the death here as the autopsy is conducted.

She will seek a warrant for the blood taken from Stutzman upon her admission to the hospital for toxicology tests.

Stutzman (nee Blackjack) was a member of the Little Salmon-Carmacks First Nation.

In respective news releases, Macdonald and Whitehorse RCMP extended their condolences to Stutzman’s family and the community.
